35 Things Macklemore is Trying to Tell You in His Version of ‘Growing Up’

Macklemore says a lot of things in his songs, and today we are going to pick out some of the things he is trying to say.

Hello Fellow Chimps! I hope you doing well! Now, I’ve been listening to music lots lately and I realised that in this song – Growing Up – there is quite a bit of meaning in there. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis sung the song. with help from pop singer, Ed Sheeran. I went and wrote down all the things the singers (and rappers!) were saying, and I present them to you today. Most of the things in here are mainly advice and opportunities you should take. Now, without further ado – let’s get into it!


  1. It’s okay to cry, and not always be strong.
  2. Girls can be tough too.
  3. Mum’s don’t have to raise the kids at home, she can raise them anywhere.
  4. Make things that you can look back and be proud of.
  5. Don’t live in FaceTime.
  6. Give back to the community that raised you.
  7. Read Langston Hughes (The artists suggest “A Raisin in the Sun”)
  8. Listen to Sam Cooke
  9. If you work hard, good things will come to you.
  10. You don’t have to change the world to be special or important.
  11. Do something that you love and do it for the rest of your life.
  12. Another book recommendation: “The Alchemist”
  13. Listen to your teachers.
  14. Cheat in Calculus 😏.
  15. Tell the truth – no matter the outcome.
  16. Give your mum a compliment every day.
  17. Take your guy/girl to the prom (and try not to get too drunk).
  18. Don’t wake your mum up.
  19. Do Yoga.
  20. Learn about Karma
  21. Find God however, leave the Dogma.
  22. Learn to be selfless.
  23. Ask questions.
  24. Try not to talk about yourself lots.
  25. Study David Bowie
  26. Watch a sunset from a rooftop with your friends.
  27. Wear a helmet
  28. Don’t be stupid
  29. Jaywalk – but make sure you look before you do it.
  30. Go outside when it snows.
  31. Go to festivals.
  32. Go camping.
  33. Fall in love and dance together.
  34. You’re only young once.
  35. Take risks.
